Czech authors

Tomáš Dianiška (1984) is both the actor and the author. He has a special sense of dramatic situations and actual language. He often transforms his contemporaneous topics in the form of B movie genres. Often in shocking form and grotesque exaggeration he deals with serious issues such as identity, relationship or even crash of the individual and society. In light pen, with great insight, he touches politics, general and personal history, in high and low style. Author´s profile
David Košťák belongs to the authors of the youngest generation, yet he has written a respectable number of plays, both original topics and author’s adaptations of classic literature. His plays mostly touch interpersonal relationship, the fate of individuals in today’s society, criticism of consumerism and other phenomena of today, he often refers to childhood memories and inner world of person. His plays are characterized by a poetic language, with a slight touch of playfulness and humor, but also pathos and tenderness. Author´s profile
David Drábek is an author and director in one, with a lushly developed fantasy vision. His heroes are getting older with him. There is obvious the deformation of reality according to the subjective view of heroes and their efforts to solve the crisis of young and middle age. He shows the hopes and disappointment belonging to different ages and to various social categories. His style is characterized by grotesque hyperbole, references to pop-culture and personal and general history. Author´s profile
Lenka Lagronová is especially interested in women’s themes. Most of her plays deal with a woman’s fate, unresolved family relationships, family secrets, and fatal mistakes, feeling of guilt and the inability to understand the world around and become a part of it. In the poetic language of the plays, there intermingles stylized language with symbolism, often with religious connotations. Author´s profile
Petr Zelenka (1967) is an experienced film screenwriter and director. In drama he creates a special world that seems realistic, but there are moments of distortion, absurd exaggeration and black humor. The author leaves us in doubt whether he likes his characters or makes fun of them. He examines the paradoxes of our lives, touching the fundamental problems of human existence at present, he often speaks about strange relationships and absurdities in work and life. Author´s profile
Jaroslav Rudiš (1972) mostly builds his drama works on his prose. From the different angles he examines in the form of storytelling the existential situation of a man in society, his determination by the experience of the past, the inability to escape his inner traps and childhood memories. The personal story is connected with general history, both ancient and recent one. Various metaphysical moments, in which the real and dreamy plane blends, enter the reality of his plays. Author´s profile
Roman Sikora (1970) s one of few politically leftist authors who describes the reality with a ruthless language, great exaggeration of resentment, skepticism and sardonic gossip. His language is hyperbolized, experimental. In his works he is clearly influenced by the icons of absurd drama. Author´s profile
Vít Peřina (1978) focuses on the stories for children and youngsters, with humorous hyperbole, re-interpreting traditional fairy tales with surprising updating moments or creating his own fables where the world of animals hyperbolizes into the grotesque form of people’s world. The plays are characterized by humor, poetic exaggeration and playfulness. Author´s profile
Kateřina Rudčenková (1976) is a real woman playwright of a specific poetic vision, her plays resemble scenic poems in which the reality with the dream mingles. With painful crawlness she reveals the impossibility of mutual understanding, the deep mental abyss among the individuals. She often experiments with form and language (e.g. writing in a third person). Author´s profile
Petr Kolečko (1984) is both playwright and screenwriter, he has a gift to interpret everyday language in special way and he can create impressive dialogues and situations with exaggeration of black humor. The reality is confronted with various unlikely situations. He connects classic themes of Czech and world authors with modern interpretation, he puts “noble” topics into the realm of our everyday reality. He watches the events of great history as if from the backstage. Author´s profile
